About Austin Durrer

Based in Washington, D.C., Austin Durrer has spent more than two decades in senior political leadership roles. From 2001 to 2014 he served on the staff of Democratic Congressman James P. Moran, who represented Northern Virginia in the U.S. House for nearly 25 years. He quickly rose through the ranks in the Moran office, holding virtually every position, ultimately becoming Chief of Staff. Mr. Durrer went on to serve in a senior role at the U.S. Department of Commerce under Secretary Penny Pritzker, helping lead the department's big data strategy. He later became former governor, then Florida Congressman Charlie Crist's Chief of Staff in 2017, establishing his new office and steering his agenda in Washington for the next six years. Following Mr. Crist's retirement, Austin reunited with fmr. Rep. James Moran to co-found Moran Global Strategies, a government relations firm. Mr. Durrer double majored in political science and economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He continued his education at Johns Hopkins University, earning his MBA at night. His personal interests include competing in triathlons, fishing and playing softball with his daughter.
